We have a winner! Yes, the first winner of our “beyond me living” contest is Valley Pickren, nominated by her good friend Cindy Clarke (aka Gigi). Here are just a few of the things Cindy had to say about this amazing lady:
***She is an advocate for the disabled and helps them find the programs to help make their lives more manageable.
***She has put her needs on the back burner whenever a friend calls and needs her help.
***She gives of her time and minimal resources with no strings attached.
***She is a no-nonsense kind of person…. so don’t try to lie to her because she can smell a lie a mile away!
***She was personally responsible for helping us gain custody of our granddaughter by going to pick her up from a questionable home life. We are forever grateful for that!
Congratulations, Valley, and thank you Cindy, for bringing this “beyond me” lady to our attention. We are honored to know you both.
Although now passed away, I would nominate my mother-in-law, Rosalia. She worked diligently making quilts for the Pope’s storehouse for those in need out of her own money. She served her church through her guild. She raised and cared for 7 children, one of whom was Down’s syndrome and he was a sweetheart of a man. He’s gone now, too. She accepted me as her daughter-in-law with no strings attached. Next to one other person, she loved me for who I was. She cooked and baked daily, and canned throughout the summer for their winter’s need. She never ran out of sweets to share until her last few months of life. She loved and nurtured a mulitude of flowers in addition to her large garden. I had the wonderful experience to spend 5 minutes alone with her before she a few hours later. Told her she was the best mother-in-law I’d ever known, and I meant it from my heart. She was a giver. God graced me with her life.
Thank you so much, Carmen! Wow, what an amazing lady she must have been. Thank you for telling us about her. She will be our first entry for this next month. Blessings, my friend!
